Livingston High School became the second high school in the Merced Union High School District in September 1924. This school was to be the first modern, well-planned, and well-built high school in the district. Livingston was chosen as the site as it was the Northern most town in Merced County and the Merced Union High School District was growning very quickly. The architect for this project was Mr. William H. Weeks from San Francisco. He was a well-known school building expert. The general contractor for the project was J.E. Fritz of Merced. The construction of the school was to begin in April 1924 and the building was occupied for class work in September 1924.
